I work on the web

I work on the web

When I grow up, I want to work on the web.

Many years ago, I wanted to be a biologist, but I bummed off at school, and failed pretty much everything.
Then I wanted to be a programmer, so I studied computers and up took Art class to fill my units up, thought it'd be a bludge.

Who knew I was actually going to be good at art!?
Before I even realised what was happening, I was a 3D animator. I finished school, started working at a local advertising agency directing television commercials for carpet sales - sexy ads at low low prices!
I got stepped on for so many years, dodgy clients, corrupt bosses, cheating business partners - and this was all before I was 20.
I always thought here had to be a release... There had to be something I could learn from all the heartache and financial toil...
That's when the web saved me.

I moved to Sydney, which allowed me to explore things I never experienced, clients gave me the time of day and didn't want logos for $100!
It was clear, this was my path.

After working my arse off for several years the benefits were starting to pay off, I was working for blue chip clients, managed a team of talented folk and had my youth on my side.

I'm so interested in the way the web makes people feel. I sometimes wonder what my life would be like if I was born 20 years earlier? Would I still be an uber geek who laughs at lolcats, loves picking flaws in movies about time travel (god bless the space time continuum) and enjoys long sessions with his laptop?

It's incredible to see how much the internet has effected every aspect of our lives. Our experiences, our communications, our senses, our expectations, ethics, loves, hates, desires, morals... the list goes on...

Every day I try to do more and more, for me, the web is just the beginning.
But every day I ask myself what I'll do with myself if I ever loose my love for the web and technology
.
But thats just my paranoia... until then... I work on the web.

Day 56

Day 56

Day one of house hunting. Looked at 2 houses in dominion. Both had some strong points. House #1- nice downstairs, loved the living room/dining room and the rest of the downstairs, but the upstairs was a mess and there was water damage in the basement so that made it a write off. Mind you, this was in the house and I drooled at the sight of it. I want this moved to whatever house we end up getting.

House number two was the right size, had a big living room/dining room and two full bathrooms, but it's older and dads guess is that there is at least 5-6 grand in wiring and electrical work to be done. And there was carpet. So were not going with either of them. But we are going to look at 3 more houses, in Sydney this time, that meet our price range and what we are looking for. Were gonna go as soon as the realtor can set it up for us.

Bending process

Bending process

Steel metal piece heating up for about a minute with a propane torch. The thin oil coat smoked off but it never got red hot. Too hot and it'll just melt the acrylic to the bar and boil it, too cool and it won't have enough heat to bend the acrylic.

Suggestions/recommendations:
1) Use a vice. I live in an apartment and have no such luxury, but I do have a wife willing to tempt fate.
2) Use a solid metal bar. Square or triangle.
3) Use a bar with a sharp corner.
4) Bend it slightly more than 90 degrees or clamp it in place after bending to make sure it stays 90 degrees.
5) Gloves. That bar is hot and if you slip you'll give yourself a nice burn. That and/or don't press too hard.

(There is no audio because there's nothing to hear except the beautiful sounds of a propane torch and the carpet cleaners next door.)

Heat Vent Contention

Heat Vent Contention

2007.01.22 After vacuuming the bedroom (I read that JRTs like to attack vacuum cleaners, and she's no different; first time she's vocalized inside the house), I laid a rug down in front of the vent to prevent her "body soil" from forming a stain in the carpet since she spends so much time here. Obviously, she didn't approve...
